Well I know I am little late on this but honestly I have tried to write this about a hundred times but always get stuck....For some odd reason when someone asks me to write about myself, I have a little trouble figuring out what to say because it is kind of hard to explain everything about me in a short blog but here goes nothing :)
To start off I want to say that I am so excited to get to spend 2 months with you guys trecking through Africa and spreading the name of Christ and reading everyones bios makes me all that more excited because I can tell that God has put together an amazing team :) Okay now about me I guess.
My name is Brittany Morrison and I am originally from Jacksonville, FL (Fun Fact: Jacksonville is the largest city in the United States, in regards to land mass.) As much as I was ready to leave when I started college, I now miss it a lot living in Georgia where the closest beach is a few hours away. I think I was spoiled growing up 15 minutes from a beautiful beach. Anyways, now I live in the wonderful city of Macon, GA, otherwise known as Maconga. :) It actually is kind of an interesting place to live and just like any other city, there are the good parts and then there are the.....well, not so good parts. And when I say, not so good, I mean bad. There is actually a stop light about 2 minutes off campus that is in a really sketch part of town and the Macon police actually tell students that if it is late at night, that you are actually allowed to run the red light if there are not cars coming because they don't want you sitting there for too long. But the coolest thing is the burnt down high school that most of the homeless people live in that is right down the road from my school. I have always wanted to go into it but have never had the guts to. It is really creepy looking. Overall though, Macon is a pretty fun place to live. Right now I am living here because I am studying biomedical engineering at Mercer University.
Okay, so now about my family. I have three amazing parents (mom, dad, and step-dad) who I am very close to. My family dynamic is definitely not likey most blended families. In other words, I am blessed. :) My dad and my step-dad are actually good friends. I have an older brother (21) who is the most amazing brother a girl could ask for. Yes, we have our disagreements but in the end we love each other and I know that if anything ever happen to me, he would always be there to protect me. I also have a step-sister, a step-brother-in-law, and probably one of the cutest neices in the world. Basically, I love my family and thank God everyday for them. They truly are a blessing.
As of right now, I technically have 3 jobs, which I am realizing more and more was a terrible decision...I love having the income but 2 of them really are not that fun. The most boring job I have is actually the one I am sitting at right now as I am typing this bio. Two mornings (6am-11am) a week, I work at the University Center on campus. Basically all I do is sit at the main desk and do my homework and get on facebook. I know it sounds awesome that I get paid to do this, but I am not a morning person and sitting for 5 hours half asleep basically kills me. But, its easy money I guess. The other on campus job I have is working as a Supplemental Instructor (tutor) for one of the engineering classes. Basically, I just hold tutoring sessions 3 times a week. That job is not too bad. But, my favorite job is working as a high school intern at Ingleside Baptist here in Macon. I can not tell you in writing how much I love this job. Getting paid to hang out with some awesome students and help them grow in Christ is unbelievable. Sometimes I cannot believe I get paid to do it. I am not sure that should even be legal. Having these three jobs and going to school full time basically takes over my life. Plus I am also actively involved in the BCM on campus. My roomate and I actually lead a freshman bible study on Tuesday nights. So basically, everyday of the week, I am either at church doing something with the high schoolers or doing something with BCM and then all my other time is for school.
I do have some previous experience when it comes to overseas mission work, but nothing like going to Africa for two months with people I don't really know. I have been to Costa Rica three times. My old youth pastor moved down there when I was just getting into high school and started a ministry down there, which has actually grown to be pretty large. Anyways, my youth would take trips down there each summer for a week. They were all such amazing experiences. Seeing how these people who literally had nothing, could still worship God with such sincerety was so awesome. I know that we were supposed to be going down there to help the people of Costa Rica, but honestly I think they helped me so much more. They showed me what it really meant to love God with all your heart regardless of your circumstances. I think my favorite experience was when we were at a church service and they started singing Mighty to Save in spanish. At that moment, I realized how big God really is. He is not just a God of the United States but He is God to the people in Costa Rica, to the people in Africa and to those all over the world who are willing to follow him!
So I guess now I should say something about how I came to get on this trip. Well it all started when I went to Passion Conference this past January. On a side note, if you have never gone you should and if you don't know what it is, please ask me about it because it changed my life...well God did but I just happen to be there when He did it. :) Anyways, David Platt (author of radical) was there and one of the big things he talks about is mission work. I won't go into detail about what he said but after leaving his message, I could feel God calling me to do some type of mission work. So when I got back to campus the next week, I decided to do some research and that's how I found AIM and this amazing trip! I am so excited to see what God is going to do through this team, not only in the lives of those we may encounter but also in our lives. I am so ready to be broken of my everyday comforts and just completely give myself to God this summer. I am also really excited to get to know all of you! I can already tell that God is going to do some amazing things! ONLY 99 MORE DAYS!!!! :)
Okay so now some random facts....Well I am pretty chill and sometimes is known to be "one of the guys." I guess growing up with a brother and playing softball for eight years never gave me the chance to exercise my girly girl muscle. However, I do love shopping for dresses so I guess that would be considered pretty girly and I was also in a few pageants when I was in high school. Anyways, sarcasm is my second language but I love having a serious conversation here and there. I love the doing stuff outside but I am a sucker for curling up in my bed on a Saturday and watching a movie to relax. When it comes to food, I love everything that normal Americans find to be weird but hate anything normal Americans seem to love, like peanut butter and jelly, pizza, hamburgers (well I don't hate them but I have to be in the mood to eat them.), fried foods. Well that is just some randomness about me and I am sure we will get to know each other much more over the months to come!! :)
With Love,
Brittany
ps. one more fun fact....I am 19 but will be turning 20 on June 10th which means I will get to spend my 20th birthday with you guys!! SO EXCITED! :)
